Harvey Cedars is a small independent town on the north end of Long Beach Island. It is unique among the other north end communities in that it has a number of stores and restaurants yet still retains a large degree of privacy and exclusivity.
The name "Harvey Cedars" has several disputed origins however the most common is a shortening of the name "Harvest Cedars" which was referring to the large trees that grew naturally in the area.
Most of the streets in Harvey Cedars offer public beach access so bayside homeowners can rest assured there is never a beach access issue. The streets in Harvey Cedars are identified by either numbers (75th, 76th, 77th, etc) or are named after counties in New Jersey (Hudson, Middlesex, etc). The commercial areas of Harvey Cedars are generally located in the "numbered" street sections with the named streets being on the southern end of the community.
The real estate market in Harvey Cedars is generally strong and carries a higher than average price point. There are many multi-million dollar homes in the area and land trades at a premium.
Building codes in Harvey Cedars are a little more restrictive than they are in Loveladies or North Beach with limits on height and living space as a percentage to the lot size.
